As part of the Mumbrella Comms Conference for 2017, I was quick to mark my attendance as a lawyer turned PR consultant at a session titled “911: Do I call the Lawyers in or the Crisis Comms Team”. My key take-out from the session was that lawyers and PR consultants have equally important roles to play that are clear, almost analogous to military roles:
Our goal as communications professionals is to help our clients to effectively distill and communicate their message to the media and beyond.
We all have a story to tell, right? Of course. However, we need to consider what it is that we want to say, and just as importantly, who we want to say it to.
You know a politician is in real trouble when they start blaming voters for not paying attention.... Audiences are much more likely to pay attention to facts and figures when these are delivered in a way that can be easily understood - in simple language and in compelling stories that appeal not just to the head but to the heart.
