Nigel joined Cannings in 2001 soon after its formation. Today Cannings is one of the leading financial, regulatory, and political communications agencies in the Asia Pacific.
Nigel provides strategic communications advice to national and international clients on their interaction with the media, financial markets, governments and key stakeholders. In his 15 years in financial communications and investor relations he has had particularly strong experience in mergers and acquisition communications and has led a number of contested transactions, capital raisings and other high profile communications issues for Cannings. Projects including advising Woodside on their defence against Shell, advising BHPB on their African and US expansion, and advising the BG Group on their LNG expansion into Australia. Nigel previously worked in South Africa advising South African companies like Anglo American and infrastructure utilities.

At the University of Queensland he studied economics, communications, and military history; he was a University of Queensland Blue in rugby playing for the University First XV and then for Queensland. He played rugby for the Australian Wallabies in 1985. He is active surf lifesaver, athlete, and mountaineer.
